In 1890, the municipality decided to build a new theatre similar to the Theatre of Milan. It was the biggest and contemporary of the Balkans. The inauguration started with the “Lohengrin” of Wagner in 1902. The building was terribly destroyed by the bombing of the Germans in September 1943.
